Strike® products help keep midge and filter flies under control in municipal wastewater treatment plants across
the country. With a metering system, Strike® applications are made easy, requiring minimal daily maintenance and
continually pumps a precise amount of Strike® product to trickling filters, sludge drying beds and ponds.
Some treatment plants chlorinate trickling filters to help kill the flies. Chlorination is a threat to the
bio-mass that is crucial to treatment plants. Strike® products pose no threat to non-target organisms.
Strike® products are the perfect, low-maintenance solution to prevent midge fly breeding in the lagoons used by
chemical plants. The purpose is to keep adult midges from entering the food chain where they can transfer
contaminants when preyed upon by other animals (i.e. birds, spiders, ants, rodents, etc.) When Strike® products are
implemented as part of an insect control program, the midge larvae that happen to absorb chemicals in the lagoon
will never emerge to transfer them offsite as flying contaminated adults. This not only reduces plant liability, but
also keeps plants free of irritating swarms of midge flies that can hinder production.
Water is a key component in paper or pulp mills - and where there is water, there is the threat of midge fly
infestation. Midge flies entering paper and pulp facilities can cause serious quality control issues. They have been
found to contaminate paper rolls and other items manufactured within the mill. Incorporating Strike® products into
the mill water systems will keep midge populations under control and reduce the cost of disposing contaminated or
tainted paper.
Although midge flies are small, they pose a major threat to the profitability of food processing plants. Food processing plants
– especially meat and poultry processors – offer midge flies the food, shelter, and water that they seek. With regular
applications of Strike® products you can manage the problem at its source and prevent midge flies from contaminating product and
compromising health inspections. Plant, maintenance, and quality assurance managers can count on Strike® products to help
protect their bottom line and keep operations running smoothly.
Use Strike® products in golf course lagoons, lakes and ponds because midge flies are – to put it succinctly – a mess. High
populations of midge flies can make outdoor activity difficult as midges can be inhaled into the mouth and nose and get into
eyes and ears. At night they are attracted to lights around houses and businesses and are known to roost in cool shady areas
around homes, where their droppings stain paint and stucco finishes. Large populations of midge flies also cause secondary
infestations of the spiders and ants that feed on them. Strike® products can help groundskeepers maintain a tidy appearance and
minimize midge fly nuisance to golfers and residents.
Resorts provide vacationers with a place to relax and unwind – but the same should not be provided for midge flies. High
populations of midge flies are aesthetically unappealing, a nuisance for groundskeepers, and most importantly, they can make
outdoor activities irritating for guests. Apply Strike® products in resort lagoons, ornamental ponds and lakes, and other
non-swimming aquatic areas to help ensure that guests have a positive experience.
Do you have a midge or filter fly issue?
Don't see your type of operation listed above? No problem. The environmental compatibility of Strike® products make them a great
solution for midge and filter flies in many water treatment or aquatic sites.
